From 1 January 2020 it has been prohibited to sell products containing the fungicide chlorothalonil. This was the main measure to achieve the goal of reducing metabolites in drinking water. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has classified chlorothalonil as a probable carcinogen. According to food law, a maximum value of 0.1 μg/l applies to the active substance and its metabolites in drinking water.
