The proposed amendments to the FDR would establish detailed conditions for the use of supplemental ingredients in food that protect the health and safety of Canadians while providing a predictable regulatory environment for industry. For each permitted supplemental ingredient, the conditions of use would include the categories of food to which it may be added, the maximum amount that may be added to a food, and the cautionary statements that may be required on the product label based on the amount added.
