Operators will be obliged to conduct due diligence to make sure that their commodities and products are both deforestation-free and legal according to the laws of the country of production. In defining deforestation-free commodities and products under this Regulation, we primarily relied on internationally used definitions and the work of the FAO. As a cut-off date, we propose 31 December 2020. This means that any relevant commodity or product issuing from land deforested or degraded after that date will not be allowed to enter the EU market.
