IARC, the International Agency for Research on Cancer, has published a brief review of the scientific evidence available on the various FOP (Front of Pack) nutrition labeling systems adopted so far in various European countries. The primary function of these synthetic information systems is to help consumers choose foods with nutritional profiles that are as balanced as possible, within each category of products. The epidemiological and behavioral studies published so far, according to the IARC, demonstrate: 1. the need for these tools to mitigate the prevalence of serious and chronic diseases (Non-Communicable Diseases, NCDs) related to a poor diet, 2. the superiority of the Nutri-Score over other FOP labeling systems, which is therefore recommended 'in Europe and beyond.
