The European Commission has published an updated Glossary of Common Ingredient Names. The industry now has one year to apply the new glossary.
On March 31, 2022, the European Commission updated its Glossary of Common Ingredient Names for use in cosmetic product labeling under Commission Implementing Decision (EU) 2022/677.
In this update, the Commission mainly considered the inclusion of the new International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients (INCI), published by the Personal Care Product Council, and the correction of existing ingredient names. For colorants other than those intended for coloring hair, the Color Index (CI) nomenclature has also been listed in the common ingredient names.
Decision (EU) 2022/677 replaces Decision (EU) 2019/701 and entered into force on May 19, 2022. The industry has been given a one year period, until April 28, 2023, to implement the new glossary for the purpose of labeling cosmetic products placed onto the market.
